To open the fall jazz program, the KU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dan Gailey, director of jazz studies at KU, will perform "Easy To Love," arranged by Paris Rutherford; "Everything I Love" by Cole Porter, arranged by Gailey; and "The Best Is Yet To Come," arranged by Sharon Broadley. The group includes four voices and three rhythm players.
For its portion of the program, the 19-piece Jazz Ensemble III will perform "It's Just a Blues" and "The Path Not Chosen" by the group's director Darren Jenkins, Topeka graduate student, as well as "Basie's Buddy B" by John LaBarbera, "Council Grove Groove" by Frank Mantooth, "If I Had Known" by Jeff Jarvis, "Salina" by Maria Schneider, and "Special Delivery" by John Fedchock.
KU Jazz Ensemble II, a 17-piece jazz band directed by Tina Claussen, Lawrence graduate student, will play "Dancing Song" by Clare Fischer; "See The World" by Pat Metheny, arranged by Bob Crunow; "In Your Tender Care" by Steve Owen; and "Three Feet Deep" by Jesse Krebs.
The final act on the jazz program is the KU Jazz Singers, a group of six voices and four rhythm players directed by Mitos Cox, Lawrence graduate student. The group will perform "Blue In Green" by Bill Evans, arranged by Cox; "Cottontail" by Duke Ellington, arranged by Darmon Meader; "Mo-Dot" by Kerry Marsh, "Shining Star" by Earth Wind and Fire, arranged by Gailey; "Twisted," arranged by Keith Power; and "We Will Meet Again" by Bill Evans, arranged by Gailey.
General admission tickets for the jazz concert are now on sale in the KU box offices: Lied Center, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall, 864-3982, SUA Office 864-3477. Tickets are $5 for the public and $4 for students and senior citizens. Both VISA and MasterCard are accepted for phone orders.
