KU's Rhodes competitors are:
Two candidates will be selected as finalists to represent Kansas in district competition in Minneapolis on Dec. 4 and 5. Candidates from seven central-plains states compete in the Minneapolis district for one of 32 scholarships. Winners are announced by the district committee following their Dec. 5 meeting.
Rhodes Scholars have been selected annually in the United States since the scholarships were established at the turn of the century by the estate of Cecil Rhodes, British philanthropist and colonialist. Since 1904, when the first Rhodes scholarships were offered, 23 KU students have been named Rhodes Scholars.
Selection for the scholarships is highly competitive, and nominees must excel academically as well as demonstrate leadership in a variety of non-academic activities. Rhodes scholarships are specifically for study at Oxford University.
