COLLEGIUM MUSICUM AND OREAD CONSORT TO PERFORM HOLIDAY MUSIC

LAWRENCE -- "In dulci jubilo," a program of "Early Music for the Christmas Season," will be performed by the University of Kansas Collegium Musicum, Oread Consort and Instrumental Ensemble in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, in the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 15th and Iowa. Simon Carrington, director of choral activities, and Paul Laird, associate professor of music history, are directors of the Collegium Musicum; Carrington directs the Oread Consort.

To open the holiday program, the Oread Consort and Instrumental Ensemble will perform "Cantata for Advent, BWV 61," by Johann Sebastian Bach. Later, the groups will perform "Cantata for Christmas" by Johann Rudolf Ahle.

The Collegium Musicum's Instrumental Ensemble will perform "Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ," "Lobt Gott ihr Christen alle gleich," and "In dulci jubilo," all by Michael Praetorius; "Noël suisse," "Joseph el la vierge Marie," and "Noël," all by Esprit Philippe Chédeville; "Nova, nova" by an anonymous composer, and "Nowell, nowell: The boarës head" by Richard Smert. Stefanie Moore, Lawrence graduate student, will be soprano soloist with the instrumental ensemble.

"Beata es, Virgo Maria," a motet in 12 parts by Vincenzo Ugolini, will be presented by the Collegium Musicum Vocal Consort.

"Pastorell" by Valentin Rathgeber, "Von Himmel hoch, da komm ich her," by Friedrich Wilhelm Zachow, and "Pastorale from Concerto fatto per la notte di Natale" by Arcangelo Corelli will be played by the Collegium Musicum Instrumental Consort.

To close the program, "In dulci jubilo" by Praetorius will be jointly presented by the Collegium Musicum and the Oread Consort.

The early music concert is free and open to the public.
