The concert will include the premiere of "Wedding Reflections" by Rosenthal with the composer conducting the work.
Stephen Molloy, Lawrence doctoral student, will be featured as trumpet soloist for "Dramatic Essay" by Clifton Williams.
Molloy toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra as its lead trumpeter and soloist, including a six-week tour of Japan and a CD recording, "Here We Go Again" on Victor Records, and he can be heard on Barry Manilow's "Singin' With the Big Bands" on Arista Records as lead trumpet player on the Glenn Miller selections.
The remainder of the band's program includes:
-- "Light Cavalry Overture" by Franz von Suppe, arranged by Henry Fillmore;
-- "The Spirit of Orpheus (A Sinfonian Celebration)" by Robert W. Smith;
-- "The Fairest of the Fair" by John Philip Sousa, edited by Frederick Fennell;
-- "March-April-May" by Masao Yabe;
-- "Yagi Bushi," a traditional Japanese tune arranged by Naohiro Iwai;
-- "Japanese Folk Song Suite" by Bin Kaneda, including "Antagata-Dokosa" ("Where Are You From?"), "Komori-Uta" ("Lullaby"), and "Yamadera-no-Osho-san" ("An Ancient Priest in a Mountain Temple"), all Japanese songs for children;
-- "The Great Gate of Kiev" from "Pictures At An Exhibition" by Modeste Moussorgsky.
General admission tickets for the band concert are now on sale at the KU box offices: Lied Center, 864-ARTS; Murphy Hall, 864-3982; SUA, 864-3477. Tickets are $5 for the public and $4 for students and senior citizens. Both VISA and MasterCard are accepted for phone orders.
