The University Dance Company is a 32-member troupe of dancers selected after auditions each semester. The company performs two concerts each year, dancing to works choreographed by KU dance faculty members and guest artists.
Opening the spring dance program is "Tango/Alone," choreographed by Savoy to the "Libertango," "Tango Suite," and "Fugata" by Astor Piazzolla.
The remainder of the program includes:
-- "Winsome Wench Vanquishes Vile Villain," a comic sendup of the silent film era choreographed by Kaye to music by Franz Von Suppe, and danced by Patrick Suzeau, KU dance instructor;
-- "Womansong," choreographed by Muriel Cohan, associate professor of dance, and Suzeau to music by Hedningarna, a contemporary Swedish vocal group;
-- "Ondine's Realm," choreographed by Jerel Hilding, associate professor of dance, to "Romance in f minor, op. 11," by Antonin Dvor‡k;
-- "Canvas Sky," choreographed and danced by Christine Colby-Jacques, Kansas City, Mo., special student at KU and a former Rockette, Broadway, film and TV dancer, to "Paper Moon" by Harold Arlen, Billy Rose and E.Y. Harburg, sung by Natalie Cole;
-- "Conjurin'," choreographed by Willie Lenoir, lecturer in dance, to music by the Empire Brass Quintet;
-- "On the Way Home," choreographed and danced by Kooi-Lan Tan, Malaysian senior in dance, to "Prism for Marimba" by Keiko Abe.
