KU INSTRUMENTAL COLLEGIUM MUSICUM TO PRESENT SPRING CONCERT

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Instrumental Collegium Musicum will present its spring concert, "Collegium Musicum auf Deutsch," at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 2, in Swarthout Recital Hall. The ensemble is directed by Paul Laird, KU associate professor of music history.

The concert will include primarily German music from the 16th and 18th centuries by composers Valentin Haussmann, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel, and Georg Philipp Telemann. Bach's music will be featured, including "Sheep May Safely Graze," the "Gigue" from the "Brandenburg Concerto No. 6," and a fugue from "The Well-Tempered Clavier."

The Instrumental Collegium Musicum performs on instruments like those used during the Renaissance and Baroque periods, including recorders, viols, lute, and harpsichord.

Players are Ann Stowe, Lawrence; Zechariah Goh, Singapore, and Thomas W. Heilke, Lawrence, recorder; Hilary Carrington, Julia McLaren and Carol Mitchell, all of Lawrence, viol; Darcy Prilliman, Bartlesville, Okla., harpsichord; and Ken Anderson, Lawrence, lute. Singers are Hugo Vera, Ann Arbor, Mich., and McLaren.

The concert is free and open to the public.
