But the Elmhurst, Ill., sophomore and KU Chancellor Robert E. Hemenway will trade places for at least half a day on Monday, April 26.
McGill won the raffle, called "Hemenway for a Day," created by Lambda Sigma, KU's sophomore honor society.
While McGill, a visual communications major, chairs the chancellor's Academic Administration Council meeting and meets with his legal counsel Monday morning, the chancellor will be sitting in her classes on Personal and Community Health, Advanced Volleyball and Introduction to Modern Art.
"I thought it would be interesting for him," McGill said of her Monday class schedule. "He'll have to hustle. You have to get from Robinson gym to Spencer [art museum] in 10 minutes."
As for her new administrative tasks, McGill said it would be interesting. "It sounds like all the people are getting a kick out of it," she said.
The raffle proceeds, about $200, were donated to the Jubilee Cafe, a Lawrence soup kitchen that provides homeless and needy community members with breakfast in a restaurant-style environment on Tuesday mornings. Food is served restaurant-style to emphasize the dignity of the cafe's guests. Lambda Sigma hopes the raffle that it created to increase its community involvement will be a yearly event.
"We wanted to create a project that could be held annually," said Ann E. Stueve, Lambda Sigma president and Hiawatha junior. "It's hard to pass on traditions in an organization, especially when members turn over each year."
