KU TO HOST INTERNATIONAL ORGAN CONFERENCE
LAWRENCE -- "The Organ and Church Music: International Perspectives" is the
theme of a three-day organ conference at the University of Kansas April 14
to 16 in Bales Organ Recital Hall. Guest artists for the conference are
Olivier Latry, organist of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris, and Martin
West, cantor and organist at the Michaeliskirche and musical director of
the Eutiner Kantorei in Eutin, Germany.
In addition to daily sessions of lectures, master classes and panel
discussions, the conference will also include a series of five organ
recitals by the guest artists and Michael Bauer and James Higdon of the KU
organ faculty.
The recitals are:
- Olivier Latry, organ, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday and Friday, April 14 and 16.
- Michael Bauer and Marie Rubis Bauer, organ, and Christopher Moore,
trumpet, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15. The trio's recital will be
repeated as part of KU's Faculty Recital Series at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April
24, in Bales Organ Recital Hall.
- Martin West, organ, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15.
- James Higdon, organ, at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 16. Higdon will repeat
his recital at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 9, in Bales Organ Recital Hall.

registration fee for the conference is $50 for the public and $25 for
students.
General admission tickets for the Latry and West recitals are available
through the Lied Center box office, 864-ARTS, and at the door. Seating is
limited. Tickets are $7 for the public and $5 for students and senior
citizens. The Bauer and Higdon recitals are free and open to the public.
