KU FRIEND ESTABLISHES SCHOLARSHIP FOR SCHOOL OF PHARMACY

LAWRENCE -- An anonymous gift of nearly $11,600 will help women undergraduates enrolled in the University of Kansas' School of Pharmacy, Dean Jack Fincham announced today.

The donor made the gift of stock to the Kansas University Endowment Association to establish the endowed Kathryn L. Harris Scholarship Fund. The fund honors Kathryn Harris, who was employed for more than 30 years as a bookkeeper and accountant in the pharmacy school. She retired from the medicinal chemistry department in 1993.

"Kathryn Harris was a tremendous help to many faculty and students during her tenure at KU," Fincham said. "This gift will ensure that her contributions to our school will continue forever."

The scholarship fund not only pays tribute to a former KU employee, but also will help future generations of women reach their educational goals, he said.

The KU Endowment Association is an independent, nonprofit organization serving as the official fund-raising and fund-management foundation for the University of Kansas. Founded in 1891, the KU Endowment Association is the oldest foundation of its type at a public university in the United States and one of the largest.
