CLASS OF 1998 GIFT TO BE UNVEILED

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Class of 1998 will unveil later this month a gift to the university commemorating 100 years of KU men's basketball and its former home court, Hoch Auditorium.

Chancellor Robert E. Hemenway, Provost David E. Shulenburger, assistant vice chancellor of student affairs and class adviser Barbara W. Ballard, KU men's basketball coach Roy Williams, Class of 1998 president Joy Benedict and Lawrence business owner Bud Jennings will attend the unveiling at 9 a.m Monday, Feb. 22, in the north foyer of Budig Hall.

Jennings did the design and sculpture work on the gift.

The gift commemorates KU's basketball centennial in 1998 and Hoch Auditorium as home court for the KU men's basketball from 1927 to 1955. Hoch was heavily damaged in a 1991 fire. Afterward, the building was remodeled, expanded and renamed Budig Hall.

The gift is a six-foot-by-three-foot piece of flooring from Allen Field House court. It contains the outline of the state of Kansas and a half-relief bronze of a basketball and a Jayhawk.
