KU SPRING ENROLLMENT INCREASES

LAWRENCE -- Spring enrollment at the University of Kansas surpassed 26,000 students on all campuses, according to figures released by the Kansas Board of Regents today, Feb. 18.

Total KU enrollment after the 20th day of classes for Spring 1999 was 26,297 students, an 83 student increase from the Spring 1998 enrollment of 26,214. In Spring 1997, KU enrolled 25,755 students.

At the Lawrence campus, 23,900 students enrolled this year compared to 23,848 in 1998. Lawrence campus totals include enrollment at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park as well as at the Capitol Complex in Topeka. At the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., 2,397 students enrolled this year compared to 2,366 in Spring 1998.

"KU's goal is for a stable enrollment while increasing efforts to attract the nation's best students," Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett, associate provost, said. "With an increase that is less than one-quarter of one percent, we're meeting that goal."

Spring 1999 enrollment at all Kansas Board of Regents universities increased by 409 students to 76,036, a .5 percent increase from Spring 1998 when 75,627 students were enrolled. KU remains the largest university in the regents system. About 35 percent of the students enrolled at a public Kansas university are at KU.
