Honors Program
KU NAMES UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH AWARD WINNERS
LAWRENCE -- Eight University of Kansas students have received undergraduate research awards for the spring semester.
Each student receives $250 from KU's general research fund to help support their research project. The purpose of the awards is to provide support for original and independent research by Lawrence-campus undergraduates. The KU Honors Program administers the awards.
Selection criteria included the student's academic record, ability to complete the proposed research project, the project's potential contribution to knowledge and the educational value of the research to the students. Applicants also provided recommendations from faculty sponsors and other faculty members familiar with their work and proposals.

BUTLER COUNTY
- From Benton
- Jason Allen Etheredge, senior majoring in genetics, is the son of Thomas Etheredge, Rt. 1 Box 146CD; "Effects of Magnetic Orientation on Migratory Behavior in Danaus Plexippus"; Orley R. Taylor Jr., professor of entomology, ecology and evolutionary biology.
- From El Dorado
- Stephanie Anne Miller, senior majoring in environmental studies, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller, 612 Plover; "Examination of Potential Chemoreception Structures in Chorulegaster Obliquus"; Donald Huggins, senior scientist for the Kansas Biological Survey.
- Mindie Renee Miller, senior majoring in philosophy and in English, is the daughter of Sherry Miller, 515 N. Emporia St.; "The Ethics of Partner Notification in Cases of HIV/AIDS: A Theoretical Approach to Confidentiality in the Professions"; Don Marquis, professor of philosophy.

- Katherine Nellie Zentmire, senior majoring in geology, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Zentmire, 8919 W. 101st St.; "Beryllium-10 Dating of a Moraine Deposit in the Matanuska Valley and Modern Outwash of the Matanuska Glacier, Alaska"; John C. Gosse, assistant professor of geology.
- Linda Carol Elkins, junior majoring in genetics, is the daughter of Carol Elkins, 8312 W. 127th Place; "The Location and Definition of the ts491 Autographica California Baculovirus"; Robert F. Weaver, professor of molecular biosciences.

- Melinda K. Carden, senior majoring in social welfare, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Carden, 20889 Cricket Lane; "Memory Books: The Effects of Intergenerational Contact and Knowledge About Aging on Adolescents' Attitudes Toward Older Adults"; Rosemary Chapin, associate professor of social welfare.

- From Topeka
- Aimee Jo Buckland, senior in social welfare, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Buckland, 1708 SW 15th St.; "Competent Social Work Practice with Multiracial People"; Michael James Yellow Bird, assistant professor of social welfare.
