AIR FORCE BAND'S STELLAR BRASS TO PERFORM IN KU RECITAL
LAWRENCE -- Stellar Brass, the brass ensemble of the United States Air
Force Band of the Rockies, will perform a recital at the University of
Kansas at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Swarthout Recital Hall in Murphy
Hall. Following the recital, members of Stellar Brass will conduct a clinic
for KU brass students at 6:30 p.m. in Room 102 Murphy Hall.
Stellar Brass enjoys a reputation as one of the finest brass ensembles in
the country and entertains with a repertoire ranging from baroque to
ragtime, classical to jazz. In addition to performing for standing room
only audiences throughout this country and Poland, the ensemble has played
in Carnegie Hall and was featured at the 1993 International Trumpet Guild
convention.
The six-member group is directed by Master Sgt. John Gohl, Moorhead, Minn.,
who also plays trombone. Other members of Stellar Brass are Master Sgt.
Steve Kindermann, Dallas, and Tech. Sgt. Tim Allums, Beaumont, Texas,
trumpets; Master Sgt. Gary Poffenbarger, Arkadelphia, Ark., tuba; Tech.
Sgt. Gary Stephens, Denver, horn; and Tech. Sgt. Steve Przyzycki, Chicago,
percussion.
The performance is free and open to the public.
