The degree is the only one of its kind in the area. "It will provide engineering and construction professionals with the necessary tools to advance their careers," says Bob Clark, dean of the KU Edwards Campus.
Since the early 1980s, students have been taking individual graduate construction management classes through the Architectural Engineering Department. "This program intends to combine the current individual courses into a recognized graduate degree," says Tom Glavinich, chair and associate professor of the Architectural Engineering Department.
This degree is a 33-credit hour program. Admittance into the program requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, technology, architecture, management or construction. After completion of the core and elective courses, students must complete an advanced technical project.
Courses offered this fall include Construction Planning & Scheduling and Construction Quality, Productivity & Safety. Classes will meet in the evening at the Edwards Campus. Tuition the same for both Kansas and Missouri residents.
