ECUADOR STUDY TOUR TO PRODUCE TOOLS FOR KANSAS TEACHERS
LAWRENCE -- When classes resume next fall in Kansas school districts, Spanish and social studies teachers will have access to an interactive CD ROM disk and a Website created by 12 Kansas teachers selected to participate in a study tour of Ecuador.
The June 4 to July 3 study tour of Ecuador was sponsored by a Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad grant from the U.S. Department of Education to the University of Kansas Center of Latin American Studies. KU's School of Education provided additional support.
Kansas teachers competed to participate in the four-week program, which focused on cultural and geographic diversity. The 12 teachers returned to the KU campus to create lessons that will be available to all Spanish and social studies teachers in Kansas. The CD ROM disk and Website address will be available in August from KU's Center of Latin American Studies. For the Web address, send e-mail to latamst@ukans.edu.
Susan Twombly, professor of education, Manuela González-Bueno, assistant professor of education and Martina Masaquiza, visiting professor of Quichua at KU from Salasaca, Ecuador, led the study tour.
The goal of the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad program is to improve language instruction and knowledge of foreign cultures in U.S. schools and colleges.
