KU HIRES HEALTH CENTER DIRECTOR

LAWRENCE -- A 25-year health-care administration veteran will soon become director of the Watkins Student Health Center at the University of Kansas, KU officials announced June 1.

David Ambler, vice chancellor for student affairs, announced the appointment of Carol B. Seager to the position of director of Student Health Services at KU. In this role, she will oversee the daily management of the campus student health center effective July 1. Seager is now the director of Student Health Services at Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.

"I'm pleased that Carol Seager will be coming to the University of Kansas," Ambler said. "She brings a variety of experiences at two university student health services as well as from the private sector. I'm confident that she'll continue the tradition of outstanding health services offered at Watkins Student Health Center and will bring with her new ideas about how we can better serve the health-care needs of students."

Since 1994, Seager has directed the health service at Clemson, the Redfern Health Center. She also served as a lecturer at the school. Prior to Clemson, she spent 12 years at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Ind. At Notre Dame, she began as the university employment manager and was promoted to the position of director of Health and Medical Services. She previously worked at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind., Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, Ind., and Mount Clemens General Hospital in Mt. Clemens, Mich.

Seager earned a bachelor's degree from Alma College, Alma, Mich., and a master's degree from Notre Dame.

Seager has served on many committees including an AIDS task force, freshman orientation committee, American Cancer Society and International Special Olympics. Her honors include being named "Woman of the Year" by the YWCA, Notre Dame's presidential award and the American College Health Association's E. Dean Lovett Award.

"I'm truly honored to join the staff of Watkins Student Health Center. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a group of highly qualified and motivated people who are dedicated to providing quality health-care services to the students of the university," Seager said.

Seager replaces James E. Strobl, who served as director of the health center from 1983 until his retirement last year.

KU's Student Health Center is accredited by the Association for Ambulatory Health Care Inc. and serves about 19,000 members of the KU student body annually.
