Warner will be responsible for information policy development and analysis, especially information privacy, access, intellectual property and freedom of expression. She will also coordinate the KU's data management program and will assist with long-range and strategic planning for information technology on the Lawrence campus.
Warner comes to KU with more than 20 years in automated information services. Before coming to KU, she was employed at the University of Michigan Library, where she was head of the Library Systems Office and interim associate director for technical, access and systems services. In addition, Warner served as the University of Michigan representative to a number of working groups of the Committee on Institution Cooperation (CIC), a consortium of Big 10 and other institutions. Most recently Warner served as chair of the CIC Technical Specifications Group working with OCLC Inc. to develop a standards-based distributed interlibrary loan system. This interlibrary loan system builds on phase one of the CIC Virtual Electronic Library on which Warner was also involved.
"Beth's combination of library and systems experience, especially in the areas of institutional cooperation and policy development, will make her a central player in helping to shape information services at KU," said Goodyear. "Her knowledge and talents will make it possible for this campus to move in positive directions."
"I'm pleased to have the opportunity to join the staff of the University of Kansas and to work with Vice Chancellor Goodyear. The university is well-positioned to move ahead on many fronts in the area of information services," Warner said. "I hope my background will allow me to make significant contributions to those efforts."
The office of the Vice Chancellor for Information Services coordinates and oversees the operations of the University of Kansas Libraries, Academic Computing Services, Computing Services, Networking and Telecommunications and Printing Services.
