LAWRENCE -- Chancellor Robert Hemenway will be inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society along with nearly 500 juniors and seniors from the University of Kansas at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, in the Kansas Union ballroom.
Each year, Golden Key recognizes juniors and seniors in all majors who are in the top 15 percent of their graduating class.
At the induction ceremony, academic scholarships are awarded to a junior and a senior for outstanding scholastic achievement. The 1999 scholarship recipients are Amy Monique Von Lintel, Prairie Village junior majoring in French, art history and European studies, and Kathleen Ann Ryan, Lenexa senior majoring in history.
Founded locally in 1989, the KU chapter is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. Hemenway will be the keynote speaker.
The chancellor will join four more honorary inductees from the KU faculty and Lawrence community: Virgil Adams, assistant scientist at the KU Gerontology Center; Bob Basow, associate professor of journalism and Golden Key adviser; Diana Carlin, interim assistant provost and professor of communication studies; and Thad Holcombe, pastor for Ecumenical Christian Ministries in Lawrence.
A reception will follow the ceremony.
