LAWRENCE -- A new exhibit, "Neandertals in Kansas!," opens at the University of Kansas Museum of Anthropology Dec. 4. Curated by KU anthropology professors David Frayer and Anta Montet-White, the exhibit will focus on the controversies surrounding the relationship of Neandertals and modern Homo sapiens.
Biological information, derived from bones, will be interwoven with cultural information, derived from prehistoric artifacts, to provide an overview.
A collection of casts, photographs and artifacts will be on display through Feb. 6.
An opening reception will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at the museum. Professors Montet-White and Frayer will present a gallery talk at 3 p.m. The reception is open to the public.
Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call the museum at (785) 864-4245 or visit the Web site at http://www.cc.ukans.edu/~kuma.
