LAWRENCE -- Ten University of Kansas faculty members in the departments of French and Italian and of Spanish and Portuguese have received $5,000 awards honoring excellence.

The awards are from the Jessie Marie Senor Cramer and Ann Cramer Root Faculty Award Fund with the KU Endowment Association. The fund provides a $5,000 faculty award to recognize meritorious teaching and research in the departments of French and Italian and in Spanish and Portuguese.

The fund also provides a faculty scholar award of $5,000 annually for three years to recognize teaching and research in each department.

The 1999 Cramer faculty scholars are Sharon G. Feldman, associate professor of Spanish and Portuguese and Van Kelly, associate professor of French and Italian.

The 1999 Cramer award winners are

-- In French and Italian: John T. "Tom" Booker, associate professor; Caroline A. Jewers, associate professor; Jan Kozma, professor; and Allan Pasco, Hall professor of French and Italian.

-- In Spanish and Portuguese: Danny J. Anderson, associate professor; Michael John Doudoroff, professor; Lee J. Skinner, assistant professor; and Robert C. Spires, professor.

A committee of faculty chairs from other humanities departments selected the winners based on teaching records, three years of class evaluations and letters of recommendation from colleagues.
