KU CHOIRS TO CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARIES IN CONCERT

LAWRENCE -- "Anniversaries" is the theme of a concert featuring four choral ensembles from the University of Kansas at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, in the First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway, Lawrence. Performing will be the Women's Chorale, KU Men's Glee Club, University Singers and the Concert Choir.

The Women's Chorale, conducted by Catherine Parrill, will open the program with "Vier Lieder aus dem Jungbrunnen" by Johannes Brahms.

The women will also sing:

-- "In Autumn" by Gwyneth Walker.

-- "Five Haiku on Rain" by David Evans.

-- "A Girl's Garden" by Randall Thompson.

For its portion of the program, the Men's Glee Club, conducted by Lincoln Andrade, will begin with the "Kyrie" from "Mass in Honor of Saint Sebastian" by Hector Villa-Lobos.

The remainder of the glee club's program includes:

-- "The Pasture" from "Frostiana" by Thompson.

-- "Clic, Clac, Dancez Sabots" from "Chansons Françaises" by Francis Poulenc.

-- Three KU fight songs arranged by former KU graduate students Jeffrey Carter and Geoffrey Wilcken.

Gary Weidenaar will conduct the University Singers for the performance of:

-- "Verbum Caro Factum Est" by Hans Leo Hassler.

-- "Matra Pictures" by Zoltán Kodály.

-- "Ezekiel Saw de Wheel," arranged by William L. Dawson.

To close the choral concert, the KU Concert Choir will be directed by Mitos Cox. The choir will sing:

-- "The Canticle of Brother Sun," a 1995 work by Grayston Ives.

-- "Ach, weh deß Leiden" by Hans Leo Hassler.

-- "Tantum Ergo in C minor by Johann Adolf Hasse.

-- "I Gondolieri" by Gioacchino Rossini.

-- Selections from "Mass" by Leonard Bernstein.

The choral concert is free and open to the public.
