LAWRENCE -- "An Evening of Brahms" will be performed by the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in the Lied Center. Brian Priestman is conductor of the 86-piece symphony. Guest soloists for the concert are Edward Laut, cello, and Ben Sayevich, violin.
The program for the all-Brahms concert includes the overture, "An Academic Festival," followed by "Concerto for Violin and Violoncello," and "Symphony No. 2 in D."
Cellist Laut, who has been a member of the KU music faculty since 1977, has appeared as a soloist on radio and television in the U.S. and abroad. He has recorded for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and National Public Radio, and has held principal positions in the Manila Symphony, Atlantic Symphony, and the U.S. Air Force Band and Orchestra in Washington, D.C. Laut was assistant principal of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and cellist in the Cleveland Orchestra.
Sayevich came to KU in the fall of 1987 after teaching at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. Sayevich has performed with the Sinfo Nova Chamber Orchestra, Boston Concert Arts Orchestra, Boston Civic Orchestra, New England Conservatory Symphony Orchestra, and the Heidelberg Chamber Orchestra. He has also played with Chamber Music East, at the Yellow Barn and Aspen Music Festivals, and as a soloist throughout the United States.
