WHERE: Heartland Elementary School, 12775 Goodman, Overland Park
WHY: to announce the Alliance for Educational Excellence with Blue Valley School District, Blue Valley NEA and the University of Kansas School of Education. Nationally about one-third of all new teachers don't return to teaching after their first year on the job. Blue Valley School District administrators in Overland Park and KU's School of Education officials will be working together this school year to help the district's newest teachers succeed professionally.
WHO: KU's Chancellor Robert Hemenway, Blue Valley's Superintendent David Benson and the president of Blue Valley National Education Association Sherrelyn Smith will meet with reporters to answer questions about the alliance and its ultimate benefit to students and new teachers.

Corissa Nelson, Heartland first-year teacher, and Damon Carr, second-year teacher at Pleasant Ridge Middle School, Stilwell.
Karen Gallagher, KU education dean, and Jerry Bailey, director of KU's Institute for Educational Research and Public Service.
Sandra Chapman, director of Blue Valley district's human resources and staff development, and Susan Swift, executive director for Blue Valley's instructional services.
