LAWRENCE -- An Overland Park family with four students at the University of Kansas will be recognized by Chancellor Robert Hemenway as part of KU's 1999 Parents Day-Family Weekend events, Saturday, Sept. 25.
Tamatane and Irene Aga, 9201 W. 131st Terrace, Overland Park, and their four children - Tamatane Jose, freshman; Christina Teine, senior; Irene E., first-year KU medical student; and Jessica Hilda, second-year KU law student - will be recognized at a ceremony during halftime of the KU-San Diego State football game in Memorial Stadium.
Each year, the Parents Day-Family Weekend Committee selects a family to honor as part of the weekend events. Fred B. Williams, president of the Alumni Association, and Diana Carlin, interim assistant provost, will also introduce the Aga family.
All four Aga children are seeking or have received degrees from the School of Engineering. Irene graduated in 1998 and Jessica in 1997 with degrees in chemical engineering.
Mr. Aga received a bachelor's degree in education from KU in 1973 and a law degree from KU in 1976. Mrs. Aga received a master's degree in library science and a bachelor's degree in education from Emporia State University.
Three of the children, Tamatane, Christina and Irene, are graduates of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park. Jessica is a graduate of Blue Valley High School in Stanley.
Parents Day-Family Weekend is Sept. 24 to 26. Events kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday with academic and student services open houses and a 4 p.m. tailgate dinner for pre-registered families, preceding the 6 p.m. KU-San Diego State football game.
Sunday includes an 11:30 a.m. brunch at the Kansas Union and a 2:30 p.m. KU-Creighton women's soccer game at the SuperTarget Field.
