PARADE KICKS OFF KU HOMECOMING
LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas swings into homecoming gear with a parade at 2:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1.
Jayhawk Boulevard will be closed from 2:20 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the parade, which will feature a color guard, homecoming floats and the Marching Jayhawks Band. The parade will form at the Chi Omega fountain and end at Adams Alumni Center.
Parade winners will be announced at the Saturday, Oct. 2, homecoming football game.
Events have been scheduled for Homecoming Day on Saturday, Oct. 2, as follows:
- The University Daily Kansan is having a reunion for all former staff members, with an open house in the newsroom Friday evening, Oct. 1, and Saturday morning, Oct. 2. There will be a buffet at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Adams Alumni Center. Reservations are required for the buffet.
- The School of Education celebrates its 90th anniversary with a Homecoming pre-game party at 10:30 a.m. in the east parking lot of Joseph R. Pearson Hall. The pre-game party will be hosted by the School of Education's National Advisory Board and will feature music by the Euphoria Stringband. All School of Education faculty, students and alumni are invited.
- Watson Library will celebrate its 75th anniversary with an open house beginning at 10 a.m. A 10:30 a.m. program on the main entrance steps will feature remarks by Chancellor Robert Hemenway and Keith Russell, KU's new dean of libraries, and a poetry reading by Victor Contoski, professor of English. An exhibit, "Watson Library at 75: A History of the Building," will open as well. The public is invited to all events.
- Kickoff for the Oct. 2 KU-Southern Methodist University football game at Memorial Stadium is at 1 p.m.
