Three keynote speakers are scheduled for the "NATO: Security and the New Europe" program Friday, Sept. 10, at the University of Kansas. The day's events begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome from Chancellor Robert Hemenway.
Cold War historian John Gaddis of Yale University speaks at 9:30 a.m. on "The United States, NATO and the Geopolitics of the 20th and 21st Centuries" in Woodruff Auditorium, Kansas Union. Free and open to the public.
Russia specialist and arms control expert retired Brig. Gen. John C. Reppert, Harvard University, speaks on "NATO and Russia" at 12:15 p.m. in the Big 12 Room of the Kansas Union. Free and open to the public.
U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback will speak at 7 p.m. during a dinner for participants of the three-day NATO conference and invited guests in Adams Alumni Center.
"NATO: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" is a three-day public conference sponsored by the Robert J. Dole Institute for Public Service and Public Policy at KU. The conference opens Thursday, Sept. 9, with events at Fort Leavenworth and at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park. The program observes NATO's 50th anniversary.
Conference co-sponsors include KU's Center for Russian and East European Studies; KU's Chancellor's Office; Johnson County Community College; Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation in Topeka; Kansas Inc. in Topeka; Ft. Leavenworth Command and General Staff College; Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in Independence, Mo.; Dwight D.
