KU BELLS TO MARK FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME OBSERVANCE

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas will participate in International Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Day by ringing the campanile bell for one minute beginning at 9:09 a.m. tomorrow.

The effort is part of the FAS Bell Concordance, which is aimed at having bells in every time zone ring at 9:09 a.m. on the ninth day of the ninth month of 1999 to raise awareness of fetal alcohol syndrome.

Albert C. Gerken, professor of music and dance and university carillonneur, will play "Rock-a-Bye Baby" for the observance.

For more information about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Day, visit the FAS web site at http://www.acbr.com/fas/fasday.htm.
