ENROLL NOW FOR 'KU FOR LAWRENCE' CLASSES
LAWRENCE -- A new community outreach program at the University of Kansas is offering Lawrence area residents a choice of four weekly noncredit enrichment classes taught by distinguished faculty members.
The new "KU for Lawrence" program is now enrolling students for the three- to six-week evening classes starting in September and October.
"This is an easy way for people in the Lawrence community to take a course from a KU faculty member," said Bob Senecal, dean of continuing education at KU. "It's a great opportunity for people who love to learn and explore ideas, and for KU to share its wealth of knowledge and expertise."
The classes are:
- "The Nuts and Bolts of Jazz," taught by Dick Wright, professor emeritus of music and dance, with assistance from Chuck Berg, professor of theatre and film. Five weekly sessions starting Sept. 16. Fee: $20.
- "Healthy Aging," taught by Del Shankel, professor emeritus of microbiology and chancellor emeritus; Paul Atchley, assistant professor of psychology; Frederick Holmes, distinguished professor of internal medicine and geriatric medicine; and Diana Bigelow, assistant professor of molecular biosciences. Four weekly sessions starting Sept. 14. Fee: $40.
- "Copyright and the Internet: How to Protect Your Intellectual Property," taught by Marilu Goodyear, vice chancellor for information services. Three weekly classes starting Sept. 15. Fee: $30.
- "The Balkans: Past, Present and Tomorrow," taught by Marc L. Greenberg, associate professor of Slavic languages and literatures; Norman Saul, professor of history; Bruce Berglund, lecturer in humanities and Western Civilization; and Jacob Kipp, adjunct professor of history and senior analyst, Foreign Military Studies Office at Fort Leavenworth. Six weekly classes starting Oct. 12. Fee: $60.
