Statement regarding KU student's death

Chancellor Robert E. Hemenway made the following statement in response to a tragic car accident Saturday, Aug. 12, which involved sophomores Laura Jane Leftwich of Skokie, Ill., and Alex Wolfson of Omaha, Neb. Laura Leftwich died Sunday, Aug. 13, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. Alex Wolfson was treated and released from Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

"On behalf of the entire KU community, I want to express profound sorrow at the death of Laura Leftwich, a bright, promising young woman. We all mourn her loss.

"I offer our deepest sympathies to Laura's family and friends as well as to Alex and the Wolfson family."
