LAWRENCE -- Two University of Kansas students recently received 2000-01 Ford
Motor Company/Golden Key undergraduate scholarships for being named
outstanding new members of KU's chapter of Golden Key International Honor
Society.
Michael Martin, Clay Center junior in environmental studies, and Jamie
Zerbe, Council Grove senior in biochemistry, received the scholarships.
Martin and Zerbe were recognized during a Nov. 15 ceremony in the Kansas
Union in which more than 600 KU juniors and seniors were inducted into
Golden Key.
Golden Key membership is by invitation to juniors and seniors who are in the
top 15 percent of their graduating class. They must have maintained a
cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher to be considered for
admittance to the society.
Golden Key International Honor Society is a nonprofit, academic honors
organization with 250 university chapters worldwide. The society was founded
in 1977 on the principles of scholarship, service and recognition. Since
then, Golden Key has inducted more than 850,000 lifetime members worldwide.
One faculty member was named an honorary member of KU's chapter. Annette
Stanton, professor of psychology, was selected for her contributions to the
community, the university and its students. Up to five honorary members from
KU and the Lawrence community are inducted annually.
