LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas' annual Vespers celebrates the arrival
of the holiday season at 2:30 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10,
in the Lied Center. Tickets are $10 for all seats.
Performing in this year's 76th annual event are the KU choirs and KU
Symphony Orchestra, with special performances by the Kansas Brass Quintet,
and KU's percussion and saxophone ensembles.
The program includes classic pieces and long-time favorites. The audience
is invited to sing along with the choirs and orchestra for the traditional
"God rest ye merry gentlemen," "White Christmas" and "O come, all ye
faithful."
Prior to each Vespers performance is a free organ recital, at 1:30 p.m. and
6:30 p.m., in Bales Organ Recital Hall. Organist Tandy C. Reussner will
perform a concert of traditional and contemporary Christmas music.
Reussner earned her bachelor's and doctoral degrees at KU. Her CD, "Live at
Bales," the first live recording made at the hall, will be available for
sale at the concerts.
