Jerod Haase hits the links for KU pharmacy golf tournament

LAWRENCE - Golfers will have a chance to tee off with a former University of Kansas basketball standout - and help a good cause - at the first ever Rx Scholarship Golf Classic, sponsored by KU's School of Pharmacy.

As honorary chairman of the tournament, former KU guard Jerod Haase will tee off on the first hole with each team in the foursome scramble. He also will have his picture taken with each team. Haase, now an administrative assistant in the men's basketball program at KU, is the son of a pharmacist.

The one-day tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, at Dub's Dread Golf Course, 12601 Hollingsworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. The tournament is open to the public, and the deadline for registration is Friday, July 14.

The cost is $125 per person, which includes a polo shirt, use of a golf cart, green fees, range balls, course refreshments, an autographed photo with Haase and dinner. Several door prizes will be offered. Non-golfers can attend the dinner for $20. Individuals or corporations are encouraged to contribute directly to the scholarship fund.

Tournament organizers hope to raise more than $7,500 for undergraduate pharmacy student scholarships.

For more information on registering or contributing to the scholarship fund, contact Gene Hotchkiss, assistant to the pharmacy school dean, at (785) 864-3591, or ghotchkiss@ku.edu.
