LAWRENCE--Ann Eversole, associate dean of students, will be interim dean of students at the University of Kansas, KU officials announced today.
Eversole replaces James Kitchen, who will leave KU June 30 to become vice president of student affairs at San Diego State University.
"We are lucky to have someone with Ann's experience step in for us at this time. She has served the university in many ways and, just as importantly, is a trusted adviser to KU students," said David Ambler, vice chancellor for student affairs.
The dean of students heads the Department of Student Life within the Division of Student Affairs. It includes the Student Organizations and Leadership Development Center, Recreation Services, Legal Services, University Career and Employment Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, International Student Services, Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Student Development Center.
Eversole came to KU in 1973. She holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Emporia State University and a doctorate in educational policy and administration from KU.
KU students voted Eversole an honorary member of the classes of 1981, 1983, 1987 and 1991. She also is a longtime adviser to Rock Chalk Revue.
