LAWRENCE-"An Anglo-French Evening" is the theme for the spring concert of the University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra at 7.30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Lied Center. Brian Priestman, KU professor and director of orchestral activities, is conductor of the 93-piece orchestra.
The concert will open with "The Gordian Knot Untied" ("Suite No.1") by Henry Purcell, arranged by Gustav Holst, followed by "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" by Ralph Vaughan Williams.
The KU Chamber Choir, conducted by Mitos Cox, Seattle, Wash., graduate student, will join the orchestra for a performance of "The Rio Grande" by Constant Lambert, based on a poem by Sacheverell Sitwell. Amir Khosrowpour, Irvine, Calif., freshman, will be pianist for the work.
For the second portion of the program, the orchestra will play "Symphony in D minor" by Cesar Franck, composed in 1888.
