LAWRENCE - Phi Kappa Phi, a national all-academic honors society, is
accepting nominations. To be eligible, students must be in the top 5
percent of the senior class or the top 10 percent of the graduate
school.
Information has been sent to each school for nominating
undergraduates and each department for nominating graduate students.
David Darwin, who was the installing secretary of the KU chapter of
Phi Kappa Phi in 1975, said that membership in the society was a
prestigious accomplishment for students.
"I think the principle advantage is being recognized as part of the
most selective academic honor society at KU," said Darwin, Deane E.
Ackers distinguished professor of civil engineering. "It's
recognition that you carry with you for life."
Darwin said the chapter was planning to expand activities at the faculty level.
"There are plans for future programs on campus including assisting
with service programs and putting on programs for the general
university community," he said.
Nominations should be turned in to Adolfo Matamoros, secretary of the
KU chapter, by Oct. 15. For more information, call 864-3761.
