LAWRENCE -- The Board of Trustees of the Kansas University Endowment Association met for its 109th annual meeting Sunday at the Adams Alumni Center and elected five new trustees to the board.
Founded in 1891, KU Endowment is an independent, non-profit corporation chartered to raise, manage and disburse funds for the University of Kansas. The board is composed of up to 75 trustees who represent and support KU around the country. Their duties include reviewing reports on fund raising and asset management and serving on committees that provide advice and recommendations for KU Endowment programs and activities.
On Sunday, the board elected as new KU Endowment trustees Timothy A. Crown of Phoenix; Robert J. Eaton of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; John D. Hunkeler, M.D., of Mission Woods; Edward A. Kangas of New Canaan, Conn.; and Frank C. Sabatini of Topeka.
Timothy A. Crown graduated from KU in 1986 with a bachelor's degree in business and computer science. He is president of Insight Enterprises Inc. He is a life member of the Chancellors Club, KU's major-donor organization; a member of the club's Outlook Society; and a member of the KU Alumni Association. He serves on the KU School of Business Board of Advisors.
Robert J. Eaton graduated from KU in 1963 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He is retired chairman, CEO and president of Chrysler Corporation. In 1994, KU awarded him the Distinguished Service Citation for service to humanity, and in 1995 the School of Engineering awarded him the Distinguished Engineering Service Award. He is a life member of the Chancellors Club; a member of the Elizabeth M. Watkins Society, which honors donors who have developed estate plans or other deferred gift arrangements that ultimately will benefit KU; and a life member of the KU Alumni Association.
John D. Hunkeler graduated from KU in 1967 with a medical degree and completed a residency in ophthalmology at KU in 1972. He is president of Hunkeler Eye Centers and former chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at KU Medical Center. During Campaign Kansas, KU's comprehensive fund-raising campaign that ran from 1987 through 1992, he served on the Campaign Constituent Committee and the Campaign National Council, and he was vice chairman for the Medical Center Committee. He is a life member of the KU Alumni Association and serves on its Jayhawks for Higher Education Committee. He is a member of the KU Medical Alumni Association and former president of its board. In 1990, he received the Mildred Clodfelter Award for sustained volunteer service to KU. He is a life member of the Chancellors Club and a member of the club's Hill Society, and he has served on the Chancellors Club Advisory Board.
Edward A. Kangas graduated from KU in 1966 with a bachelor's degree in business administration and in 1967 with a master's degree in business. He is chairman and CEO (retired) of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. During Campaign Kansas, he served on the Northeast Regional Committee and the Campaign National Council. He is a life member of the Chancellors Club; a member of the Hill Society; and a life member of the KU Alumni Association. He is a member of the School of Business Board of Advisors and also has served on the business school's Accounting and Information Systems Advisory Council.
Frank C. Sabatini graduated from KU in 1955 with a bachelor's degree in business and in 1957 with a law degree. He is chairman and CEO of Capital City Bank & Trust. He served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1969 to 1970. He was a member of the Kansas Board of Regents from 1992 to 1995, serving as chairman in 1994-95. He is a life member of the Chancellors Club; a member of the club's Outlook Society; and a member of the Elizabeth M. Watkins Society. He is a life member of the KU Alumni Association and has served as a member of its development committee, as a member of the Jayhawks for Higher Education Committee and as a National Alumni Association Representative to the Athletic Board. In 1998, KU awarded him the Fred Ellsworth Medallion for service to the university. He is a member of the Campaign Steering Committee that is currently planning the next fund-raising campaign for KU.
