LAWRENCE - Students from eight Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Sept. 20, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
The students, seniors from Sumner County, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a dinner program at 6:30 p.m. at the Raymond Frye Complex, 320 N. Jefferson, Wellington.
Carl Locke Jr., dean of engineering, will speak. Alumni Association representative Jennifer Mueller, student program director, is in charge of award presentations.
The program will cost parents and alumni $13 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.
David Carr, Wellington, is site coordinator. Gerald Rogers, Wellington, is county coordinator; and Cathy Mitchell, Wellington, is facilities coordinator.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 76,000 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
