LAWRENCE--Students from 16 Kansas high schools will be honored Tuesday, Sept. 26, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
The students, seniors from Douglas, Jefferson and Leavenworth counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 7 p.m. program and reception at the Lied Center, KU's west campus, 15th and Iowa streets, Lawrence.
Honorees' names are listed below.
Donald Hagen, executive vice chancellor at the KU Medical Center, will speak. Alumni Association representative Jennifer Jackson Sanner, senior vice president for communications and editor of Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.
Karen Van Blaricum, Lawrence, is site coordinator. County coordinators are Teresa Dillon and Rita Spradlin, both of Lawrence, for Douglas and Jefferson counties and Tom Throne, Lansing, and Bianca Elliott, Linwood, for Leavenworth County.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 76,000 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
