LAWRENCE--Students from six Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Oct. 4, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.
The students, seniors from Chautauqua and Cowley counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a dinner program at 6:30 p.m. at the Centennial Center, Baden Square, 700 Gary, Winfield.
Honorees' names are listed below.
Leonard Krishtalka, director of the Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Reasearch Center and professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, will speak. Alumni Association representative Jennifer Mueller, director of student programs, is in charge of award presentations.
The program will cost parents and alumni $12.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association. David Andreas, Winfield, is site coordinator. County coordinators are Randy Barbour, Winfield, for Cowley County, and Tim Hills, Sedan, for Chautauqua County.
The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 76,000 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
