The Lied Center Series is composed of the Concert Series (founded in 1903), the Swarthout Chamber Music Series (1947), the New Directions Series (1987), the Broadway and Beyond Series (1994), the Lied Family Series (1996) and the World Series (2000). The upcoming season will include events that are new to the community and the region, as well as returning favorites.
In the spirit of the Lied Center's Cultural Countdown to the Millennium Project, this year the center will highlight the arts of France with "French Connections." This year's series will provide an exploration of French cultures including France, Canada, French Louisiana and Cambodia. The project seeks to connect regional communities with their French heritage, to explore these roots, and examine the importance of the arts in the development of their culture. BeauSoleil (Louisiana), Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon's "Orféo" (Quebec), Lyon Opera Ballet (France), and "Dance, the Spirit of Cambodia" with the Royal Singers and Dancers of Cambodia compose the list of featured artists that embrace aspects of French culture.
