LAWRENCE -- The former women's basketball coach of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is the third candidate for dean of the University of Kansas School of Education.
Angela Lumpkin, a professor of physical education and former dean of the College of Education at the State University of West Georgia, will visit campus and meet with faculty, staff and students Feb. 11 to 13.
Two previously announced candidates are Dianne E. Ashby, director of the Center for the Study of Educational Policy and chair of the Educational Administration and Foundations Department at Illinois State University in Normal; and Jerry D. Bailey, current interim dean of education and director of the Institute for Educational Research and Public Service at KU.
Ashby will meet with the search committee and other school personnel Feb. 4 to 6. Bailey's meetings will be Feb. 6 to 8.
Lumpkin holds four degrees: a bachelor's in physical education from the University of Arkansas, a master's in sport administration and a doctorate in sport history from Ohio State University, and a master's of business administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Lumpkin was education dean at West Georgia from 1996 to 2000. She previously taught at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina.
She was the head women's basketball coach for the Tar Heels from 1974 to 1977. She was the assistant women's basketball coach and junior varsity coach for Ohio State from 1971 to 1974.
