LAWRENCE -- A press conference for Molly Ivins, one of the nation's wittiest and best-known political pundits, and author of a book on President George W. Bush, is scheduled for
10:30 a.m.
Open to press only. The Pine Room is located on the sixth level of the union.
Ivins also will give a public speech at
1:30 p.m.
The press is welcome to attend the lecture. Woodruff Auditorium is located on the fifth level. Note: The lighting is not very good in this auditorium.
Ivins is at KU to receive the William Allen White Citation, an award for excellence in journalism given annually since 1950 by the William Allen White Foundation. KU's School of Journalism and Mass Communications is named for White, the Pulitzer Prize-winning editor of the Emporia Gazette.
Last year's recipient was Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Bob Woodward of Watergate fame.
Ivins has been a Pulitzer Prize finalist three times, and has won numerous journalism awards. Her latest book, "Shrub: The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. Bush," is a critical examination of the president's political record in Texas.
