Race to benefit KU tutoring program for area students

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas Strategic Learning Center, a non-profit tutoring center for Lawrence-area students, announces "Run in the Sun," a benefit race on June 30.

Proceeds from the five-kilometer run and one-mile walk will benefit a scholarship fund for at-risk students in need of tutoring at the center.

The race will begin in the parking lot of Southwind Movie Theaters and will continue on the walking trails adjacent to the theater. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the race beginning at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $20.

The KU Strategic Learning Center, 211 E. 8th St., Suite C, is dedicated to assisting learners of all ages and backgrounds. Students work one-on-one with tutors to develop skills necessary to become independent learners.

The center is part of KU's Center for Research on Learning, which has a long history of working to solve the problems faced by individuals with learning disabilities and others at risk for failure.
