Golf tournament to help KU pharmacy scholarship fund

LAWRENCE -- In need of a good excuse to hit the links? Look no further than the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy Rx Scholarship Golf Classic.

Proceeds from the golf tournament, now in its second year, go toward supporting scholarships for undergraduate pharmacy students. Last year, the tournament raised $8,000 for the scholarship fund. This year, the goal is $10,000, said Jack Fincham, dean of the pharmacy school.

"It's a good chance for our alumni, friends and supporters of our program to get together and enjoy each other's company while supporting a good cause," Fincham said.

The one-day tournament Ð in the form of a four-person scramble - begins at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, at Dub's Dread Golf Course, 12601 Hollingsworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. The tournament is open to the public with registration available up to the day of the tournament.

Registration is $125 per person, which includes golf cart, green fees, range balls, course refreshments and dinner. However, if you register by Friday, June 8, the fee is $110 per person. Non-golfers can attend the dinner for $20.

Several prizes will be given throughout the tournament, including prizes for lowest score, longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt and various door prizes. Individuals or corporations are encouraged to contribute directly to the scholarship fund by sponsoring holes throughout the course. Hole sponsorship can be made through a donation of $250.

For more information on registering or contributing to the scholarship fund, contact the KU School of Pharmacy at (785) 864-3591, or email ghotchkiss@ku.edu.
