LAWRENCE -- While University of Kansas students are enjoying fall break, faculty and staff will be hard at work.
KU's first fall break takes place Thursday, Oct. 18, to Sunday, Oct. 21. Carol Prentice, assistant to the provost, said the break is for students and that departments and buildings will remain open with few exceptions.
The residence halls are open for the duration of the break. This is a change from other breaks, when the residence halls are usually closed. The dining centers, however, will operate on weekend hours, serving brunch and dinner only.
The hours for the University's museums remain unchanged. The Anthropology Museum, the Spencer Museum of Art and the Natural History Museum all will be open during the break.
The Burge and Kansas unions will be open as usual.
At Robinson Gymnasium, the only change will be the cancellation of the Sunrise Fitness class. The pool and weight room will continue with regular hours.
Parking services will enforce faculty and staff parking lots; however, student lots, which include yellow and residence hall permit lots, will be open to all.
Only the university libraries have significant changes in their hours of operation:
Anschutz Library will close at 9 p.m. Oct. 17 and at 5 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19.
The Law Library closes at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19.
The Murphy Art and Architecture Library will close at 5 p.m. Oct. 17, 18 and 19.
