KU to honor high school students at Chapman

LAWRENCE -- Students from eight Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Nov. 7, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Geary, Dickinson and Morris counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at the Chapman High School, 400 W. Fourth, Chapman.

Honorees' names are listed below.

Barbara Ballard, associate vice chancellor for student affairs, will speak. Alumni Association representative Jennifer Jackson Sanner, senior vice president for communications and editor of Kansas Alumni magazine, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $11 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Susan James, Chapman, is the site coordinator. Julie Hamel, Chapman, is the alumni coordinator for Geary, Dickinson and Morris counties. Sue and Todd Frieze, Chapman, are the parent and student coordinators.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
