KU journalism student helps with redesign of Leavenworth Times

LAWRENCE -- A University of Kansas journalism student assisted with the redesign of the Leavenworth Times newspaper. Kyle Ramsey, Wichita senior, worked with Leavenworth Times Editor Tom Throne and University Daily Kansan General Manager Tom Eblen to create a new format for the newspaper.

The newly designed Leavenworth Times revealed its new look in its Sept. 10 issue. Changes included a narrower paper width, a new typeface and more column rules.

In August, Throne contacted Eblen to review his preliminary work on the new design. Eblen suggested that Ramsey who had helped redesign the University Daily Kansan join them.

"Kyle has worked as a designer for the University Daily Kansan for some time. He did a lot of work on the Kansan redesign this summer and basically made [the design] work. I knew that because of his experience and interest in design, he would have a lot to offer," Eblen said.

Ramsey and Eblen met with Throne in mid-August for several hours of initial work and helped to prepare a final design over a two-week period.

"We have received very good comments from readers. I am very pleased with the result," Throne said.
