Roundtable to focus on Soviet Union's decade of transition

LAWRENCE -- The University of Kansas' Center for Russian and East European Studies is sponsoring a roundtable discussion, "Ten Years After, 1991-2001: America's Role in the Transition of the Former Soviet Union," at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the Centennial Room, Kansas Union.

Featured speakers are:

 • Kent Lewis, Economics Education and Research Consortium Project officer, Eurasia Foundation

 • Lowell Barrington, Marquette University Department of Political Science

 • Jacob Kipp, senior analyst, Foreign Military Studies Office, Fort Leavenworth

 • David Gottlieb, University of Kansas School of Law, former legal adviser in Ukraine andĘ Bulgaria, American Bar Association, Central and Eastern European Legal Initiative

 • Erik Herron, University of Kansas Department of Political Science, former election observer for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
