KU to honor Sedgwick County high school students in Derby

LAWRENCE -- Students from nine Kansas high schools will be honored Monday, Sept. 24, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Sedgwick County, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program at Derby High School, 920 N. Rock Road.

Honorees' names are listed below.

Carl Strikwerda, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will speak. Alumni Association representative Donna Neuner, director of membership services, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $8.50 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Program coordinators are Rachel and Jason Purdy, Wichita, and Nick and Naomi Ard, Maize.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
