KU to honor Chautauqua, Cowley county high school students at Arkansas City

LAWRENCE -- Students from seven Kansas high schools will be honored Wednesday, Oct. 3, by the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the KU Endowment Association.

The students, seniors from Chautauqua and Cowley counties, will be named Kansas Honor Scholars at a 6:30 p.m. dinner program in the Wright Room of Cowley County Community College˙s Brown Center, 125 S. 2nd, Arkansas City.

Honorees' names are below.

David Shulenburger, provost, will speak. Alumni Association representative Kirk Cerny, senior vice president for membership services, is in charge of award presentations.

The program will cost parents and alumni $12 each. Honored students will be guests of the Alumni Association and the Endowment Association.

Jean Snell, Arkansas City, is the site coordinator. William Docking, Arkansas City, is the Cowley County coordinator, and Tim Hills, Sedan, is the Chautauqua County coordinator.

The KU Endowment Association and the KU Alumni Association began sponsoring the Kansas Honors Program in 1971. The program has honored 79,500 students in the top 10 percent of the Kansas high school senior classes.
